Van Der Westhuizen, Pieter

Born: 1931 Pretoria

A painter and graphic artist of landscapes, portraits, still life, genre, figures and abstract pictures.  Works in oil, watercolour, ink, pencil, charcoal and in various graphic media.

Studies: 1959-62 University of South Africa, under Leo Theron, Zakkie Eloff and Robert Hodgins; 1969 under Alfred Krenz; 1971 at the Ruth Prowse Art Centre, Cape Town, under Erik Laubscher; 1979-80 Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten en de Hogere Instituten, Antwerp, Belgium; 1982 Stedelijke Academie, Ghent, Belgium.

Profile: 1979-80 an art lecturer at Worcester Technical College, Cape Province.  Visited Belgium in 1979-80, 1982, 1983 and 1985; visited Japan 1984 and 1985-86.

Exhibitions: He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in SA, Belgium, the USA and the UK; 1970 Cape Town, first of several solo exhibitions held in SA, Belgium and Japan.  

Represented: Willem Annandale Art Gallery, Lichtenburg
