​Contemporary South African Art

Born in 1954 in Longa, Angola Flai grew up learning skills of subsistence farming and hunting from his family. 

 

He worked on a coffee plantation as a young man before receiving his military training from the Portuguese army. 

 

During the 1980's he worked for the South African Defence Force as a tracker.  He joined the relocation to Schmidtsdrift in 1990.

 

"It has been difficult to adapt to this new way of life.  My artwork is the knowledge I carry in my mind from my previous life."
