Yvonne Shackell was born in Cape Town, South Africa, the oldest of five children three half-brothers and a half-sister. She was adopted at the age of 18 months old by her grandparents.

Yvonne left Cape Town when she was eighteen months old, only to return on holiday at the age

of 35. Her Grandparents lived in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and returned to South Africa when Yvonne was three years old to farm Pineapples

in Port Shepstone, Kwa Zulu Natal.
The family moved to Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, when she was six years old, just in time for her to attend school.
Yvonne is blessed with a lovely daughter,

a wonderful son-in-law and two amazing granddaughters.

Yvonne’s artistic career began fifteen years ago. After painting for two years she was invited to display a painting in an Art Gallery in Hillcrest which is very much an Artist’s haven where the painting was sold after two weeks, and since then have sold more than eighty paintings. Yvonne’s paintings have reached many parts of the world, such as Australia, United Kingdom, Brussels, Nigeria.

The choice of medium is oils on canvas. Her artistic flare is in colour and the ability to transfer this onto canvas in a unique and very different way compared to other Artists.

Yvonne is teaching art to the local community

for the past five years with students going on to making a career themselves from their paintings.
Yvonne always displayed an interest in anything artistic, even the mundane chore of painting the walls of the house, just as long as she receives

the satisfaction of stepping back to admire the sheer difference the fresh coat of paint has made. Her love of beauty and to create beauty is a passion and is  fortunate to be able to achieve this in her art. Yvonne’s inspiration lies in colours, the blending and creating of various shades to bring them together on canvas that will create a feeling of wellbeing and happiness, and, at the same time,

to change a room and make it  beautiful . One of her commissions phoned one morning, to let her know that every time they pass their painting it makes them feel happy - this is the very essence

of what she wants to achieve.
