Bobbie Burgers
Bobbie Burgers is a contemporary Canadian painter. Her lush and Expressionistic depictions of flowers teeter on the verge of abstraction, bursting with bright color and laden with thickly applied, textural paint. “Flowers, to me, are the opposite of still,” the artist has explained. “Changing from minute to minute, they are perfect symbols for life, death, yearning, and beauty. My brushstrokes are layered with my own internal charges, depicting anger, frustration, softness, wanting, and more.” Born in 1973 in Vancouver, Canada, she studied Art History at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Her work has been exhibited widely at home and abroad, notably including Art Market San Francisco and Equinox Gallery. Today, her works are in the collections of the Berost Corporation in Toronto and the Royal Bank of Canada, among others. Burgers lives and works in Vancouver, Canada.

Contemporary South African Art
Prinsloo, Nicholas
NICHOLAS PRINSLOO, ARTIST, IN HIS OWN WORDS:
I was born on the last day of 1972 and grew up on a farm. At the age of 13 I started painting with oils on canvas. I was always fascinated by the paintings I saw. I realized that a single painting can hold many stories and secrets and was, in a way, a mystical object. Questions popped up in my mind: Who painted it? Why? Where? Why did I like or dislike a particular painting? Why did the owner buy or own the painting? What is the painting saying? How does it make other people think and feel? Too many questions to answer, but art became my passion. As I grew older I realized that painting is a way of self-discovery. In a sense, you paint what you are. This is a spiritual journey for each artist that cannot be rationally explained. I have a strong belief in the light and love of God.
My art is not a substitute for religion, but it walks hand in hand. Art has a missionary purpose too, it must be created for and of the people. I paint in an impressionistic but very contemporary style. I try to capture the visual impression of the moment and the shifting of the light. Sometimes I think my heart does more of the seeing than my eyes. I like to think of my paintings as a magic window, a portal I am creating to draw someone’s imagination. I desire the viewer to enter into my world and dwell a while, to visit for a moment in the time and space I have captured.
I use only palette knives in an unrestrained, flowing and boisterous way. Sometimes, this attack of a blank canvas even surprises me! I apply the paint in multi-layers and so liberally that the paint exceeds 10mm at certain spots. This creates a sculptured effect, making the painting nearly three dimensional. My style is truly contemporary, innovative, different and sales have proved my paintings appeal to the true art connoisseur.
My paintings make an excellent medium to long-term investments and can be seen in collections all over the world. The paintings are exceptional in colour, texture and vibrancy. My art constantly reveals something new to the observer, as the light falls on different parts of the sculpted paint. There are those who say I am eccentric, intense, bohemian…
A fellow artist Juanette Menderoi wrote the following about me: “Nicholas Prinsloo: the artist with the heart, soul and eye for art in its very essence. The heart that loves unconditionally without boundaries. The soul that feels deeper than the mind can think and the eye that sees much further than the hand can touch. His visionary intellect is what really makes this artist true to his art and his true nature. This is what you will constantly see in all his work.
A true master in his field, ahead of his time!” Vincent van Gogh once said: “I tell you, the more I think, the more I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people”. I agree.

The artist was born on the last day of 1972 and grew up on a farm. The bouts of melancholic depression that Winston Churchill used to call “the black dog”, caused the artist to be a misunderstood child.
This led him to a world of creativity which he used as an escape from the harsh realities of life. He started sketching from an early age and began experimenting with oil paints at the age of thirteen. He completed a degree in law but realized it was not his calling.
His positive outlook on life and strong believe in the love and light of God have become crucial elements for him to create. He is an intense person. Life for him is in the detail. Landscaping, music, animals and cooking are some of his other passions.

Nicholas Prinsloo was born in 1972 and painted his first oli painting whe he was 13. He uses a palette knife for his paintings in a spontaneous and boisterous way, layering the paint so thickly that the painting is almost sculptural and three dimensional. This makes his technique unique and exceptional in colour and vibrancy. His work is impressionistic with a difference and constantly reveals something new to the observer. Nicholas is eccentric and intense. His work appeals to the true art connoisseurs.
He take inspiration from his favourtie artist, Vincent van Gough who once said: "I tell you the more I think, the more I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people."
The artists medium of choice is oil on canvas. He values the medium’s plasticity and rich texture that encourage daring and unexpected effects. The impasto is so thick that the painting is virtually three-dimensional, like a sculpted relief. He uses only the palette knife and no brushes in his paintings. His use of the palette knife in an unrestrained, flowing and boisterous way leads to his unique individual technique, unrivaled by any artist worldwide. The rich texture and sculpture like quality of the paintings evoke the viever to touch his work.
South African Artist who works in oils and mixed media. He uses thick impasto mixed with his colors to create three dimensional rich images, intense with body and motion.
