Lizo Pemba was born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and is the grandchild of the late and internationally proclaimed artist - George Pemba. During the Apartheid era Lizo became deeply involved as a political activist and produced banners, cartoons and posters for the Liberation Movement.

Here he operated under the African National Congress’s (ANC’s) Cultural Desk and made signifi cant contributions such as illustrations, banners and various other designs.
