Artist's statement

Reel to reel is an old school form of film projection. I had my first encounter with it in my younger days, in township halls, school libraries,
township cinemas, as well as the educational source in the art centres
I have used it as a representation of history in few of my paintings. In Pieces of History, in is a significance of precious pieces of treasure in a
film form, which have been lost, and found. Our forefathers died without passing cultural knowledge, and because of oppression and colonialism there was no time to teach the following generation how to preserve this heritage.
Now it is our duty to dig deeper, do some intense research and recover these pieces of treasure, and put them together and find the meaning.

Reel to reel is the actual representation of what have been found, the pieces themselves  which have been found. The thing now is to connect them together in order to make sense of the meaning.
