Molefe, Boyi

Boyi was born in the Mid 50's in the Southern Drakensberg, Kwa Zulu Natal.  He was raised in various townships in Durban.

 

In 1977 he joined the Abangane Open School in Durban.  He was trained in drawing, screen printing, linoleum cutting, sculpture and photography.  He could not afford to study oil painting at this time.

 

In 1980 he started oil painting as a hobby at the weekends and has never looked back.  In 1986 he resigned from full time employment to concentrate on his art.

 

Boyi's first exhibition took place at the Umhlanga Mall in 1977.  Since then he has exhibited at the following venues:

 

1990 - The First National Bank Your Festival

1991 - The Trans Africa Gallery in Johannesburg

1994 - South Africa House, London

1996 - Cavendish Square, Claremont, Cape Town
