Meerkotter, Dirk 

Born: 1922 Pietersburg, Northern Transvaal

A painter and graphic artist of semi-abstract

and abstract pictures.  Works in oil, acrylic, watercolour , ink and in various graphic media.  A ceramicist.

Studies: 1944 Witwatersrand Technical College under Maurice van Essche. 

Profile: c.1948-58 a committee member of the Transvaal Art Society; from 1958 a member

of the SAAA.  1959-62 an art critic for Die Vaderland; 1963-66 an art critic for Die Transvaler.  A number of designs for stained glass windows for churches.  From 1962

he has run his own pottery studio in Johannesburg.  From 1973 several of his works have been reproduced in calendars.  An organist and pianist.  Study visits in 1982 to the USA; 1958, 11968, 1972 and 1978 to Europe; 1984-85 worked at the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris.

Exhibitions:  He has participated in numerous group exhibitions from 1949 in SA, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Peru, Australia, the USA, West Germany and Zimbabwe; 1950 Constantia Art Gallery, Johannesburg, first of over 12 solo exhibitions; 1956 and 1960 Quadrennial Exhibitions; 1978 Rand Afrikaans University, solo exhibition; 1981 Republic Festival Exhibition.
