Source of soapstone: Qullisajanniavik is the main mining for Johnny’s soapstone's. Also in Atinikiapi, which is behind Anurituuq. Johnny used to walk on the land to look for some stones, and he was able to find. He says people still can find them out there.

“I can carve anything, I practice, and find out what it would be.” Johnny has no limit in sculpture making, from humans to animals.

 

Additional Information:

Johnny ceased in carving since he started his old age pension in year 2000. But, he says he is still going to carve when he wants to, it was to local co-op was interrupted which lead him to stop. As long as Johnny can remember, he has been out hunting on the land, not to a game hunting, but to provide country food for local people. “It’s been a while since I last hunted,” says Johnny.
