Mahlangu, Speelman

​Born: 1958 Katlehong, Transvaal

A sculptor of figures.  Works in clay, bronze and wood.  A painter of figures and genre, working in oil, acrylic, ink, pencil, charcoal and mixed media. 

Studies: 1977-80 Katlehong Art Centre, under Rose Shakanovsky

and Stanley Nkosi.

Profile: A member of the Katlehong Art Centre.  1977-81 a part time teacher, from 1986 a full time teacher at the Katlehong Art Centre.  1987

a graphic and sculpture teacher

at the Ezebeleni Cripple Care Centre, Tokoza, East Rand.  A designer of tapestries woven at the Katlehong

Art Centre, also creates pots and makes relief murals in clay.

Exhibitions: He has participated in numerous group exhibitions from

1977 in SA, West Germany and Israel; 1985 Tributaries, touring SA and West Germany.

Represented: Frankfurt Ethnology Museum, West Germany;

University of Zululand
