Louwrens, Martin Stephen (Mat)
Born 1936 Newcastle, Natal.


A self-taught painter of historical buildings, landscapes, seascapes, portraits, wildlife and still life.  Works in acrylic, watercolor, pastel and oil
Profile Until 1978 a commercial artist in Johannesburg.  From 1981 a member of the Artists Market and from 1985 of the Brush and Chisel Club.  1983 taught art in Ixopo, Natal.  1984 illustrated Victorian Pietermaritzburg, Village Publishers, Springfield, Durban.  Lived in Durban until 1955, in Johannesburg until 1980, thereafter in Ixopo. 1976, 1980 and 1982 travelled to the UK and Sweden, having been commissioned by a Johannesburg-based company to paint their SA and overseas establishments.
Exhibitions 1978 Vereeniging, Transvaal, first of eight solo exhibitions.
