Hlungwani, Jackson


Born:  1923

A self-taught sculptor of religious works and of symbolic animals. Works in wood.

Profile: 1946 ordained into the African Zionist Church. A member of Bozz Art. Lives in Mbokote, Gazankulu.

Exhibitions: He has participated in group exhibitions from 1985 in SA; 1985 Bozz Art Foundation Exhibition, touring to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with Nelson Mukhuba, Hendrick  Nekhofhe and Dr. Phatuma Seoka; 1985 Tributaries, touring SA  and West Germany; 1987 and 1988 Johannesburg Art Gallery, Vita Art Now.

Public Commission 1988 three works for the foyer of the African Studies Building, University of Cape Town.

Represented: Irma Stern Museum, University of Cape Town; SA National Gallery, Cape Town; University of the Witwatersrand.
