Greaves, Constance

Born: 1882 Brighton Sussex, England
Died: 1966 Cala, Transkei

 

Resided in SA 1910-20 and from 1930.

 

A painter of portraits and figure studies.  Worked in watercolour.

 

Studies: Brighton Art School and Sussex Women’s Art Club

 

Profile: A member of the NSA, the SA Society of Artists and the SA Institute.  A number of her works were reproduced by E Schweickerdt, Pretoria. Lived in Natal and in the Transkei.

 

Exhibitions: 1930 Bloemfontein, first

of several solo exhibitions in SA;

1934-39 held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in London.  Participated in the exhibitions held at the Paris Salons.

 

Awards: 1930 Gundelfinger Award, 

NSA Represented: Africana Museum, Johannesburg; Ann Bryant Gallery, 

East London; Durban Art Gallery; Queenstown Gallery; SA National Gallery, Cape Town; University of

Cape Town.
