Born: 1943 Johannesburg

A painter and graphic artist of mythological and literary themes, incorporated into landscapes, portraits, still life, figures, animals and abstract pictures. Works in watercolour, tempera, egg tempera, casein tempera, fresco, mural painting techniques, oil, acrylic, gouache, ink, pencil, charcoal and in various graphic media.

Studies: 1962-63 Michaelis School of Fine Art under Neville Dubow, Carl Buchner and Katrine Harries; 1964-67 part time at the Cape Technical College, gaining a National Printers Diploma in 1965 and a Certificate in Commercial Art in 1967; 1971-72 and 1975-76 Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten en die Hogere Instituten, Antwerp, Belgium; 1979 University of the Orange Free State, gaining a BA (FA); 1983 Port Elizabeth Technikon, where awarded a National Diploma in Technology (Graphic Art); 1985 Rhodes University under Professor Robert Brooks, where attained an MFA

Profile: 1971 a portfolio of coloured lithographs, produced at the Koninklijke Academie in Antwerp.  1974 a committee member of the SAAA, Cape Town Branch and in 1977-80 of the SAAA, Orange Free State Branch.  1982-83 a member of the EPSFA.  1982 a selector for the Cape Town Triennial; 1983 on the King George VI Art Gallery, Port Elizabeth, Acquisition Committee and Board

of Trustees.  1963-69 worked as a commercial artist; 1969-71 the owner and manager of the Dorp Street Studio and a part time lecturer at the Cape Technical College; 1976-79 a lecturer at the University of the Orange Free State; 1980-86

Head of the Drawing Department, Port Elizabeth Technikon.  1971 first of several visits to Europe.

Exhibitions: He has participated in numerous group exhibitions from 1967 held in SA, Belgium, Monaco, the USA, West Germany and China; 1967 Adler Fielding Gallery, Johannesburg, first of 23 solo exhibitions held in SA and Belgium;

1970 and 1972 Stellenbosch Museum, solo exhibitions; 1973 and 1975 Bloemfontein Museum, solo exhibitions; 1977 University of the Orange Free State, solo exhibitions; 1981 Republic Festival Exhibition; 1983 King George VI Art Gallery, Port Elizabeth, solo exhibition.

Awards: 1967 Painting Prize, Cape Art;

1975 Cape Tercentenary Foundation Award
