Boonzaier, Gregorie

Born: 1909 Newlands, Cape Town

A painter of landscapes, portraits, still life, seascapes and figures.  Works in oil, watercolour, ink, wash, pencil and charcoal.  A graphic artist, producing linocuts.
Studies Heatherley School of Art, London under Bernard Adams (fl.1916-1939); Central School of Art, London.
Profile: A foundation member of the New Group and

for a decade Chairman.  For six years he was the Cape Town SAAA Representative on the Board of the SA National Gallery, Cape Town. Issued a limited edition portfolio of six watercolour and ink drawings of District Six, Cape Town.  Visited Venice. Son of D C Boonzaier (qv)

Exhibitions: 1931 William Derry Gallery, Cape Town, first of numerous solo exhibitions held throughout SA; 1948 Tate Gallery, London, SA Art Exhibition.
Award: 1958 awarded the Medal of Honour

of the SA Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns.
